Statement from Ronnie Tullos on the Veto of HB 3

I stand in agreement with Governor Abbott’s decision to veto House Bill 3. While I support responsible regulation, this bill would have dealt a serious blow to Texas’ hemp industry and restricted access to products that many patients depend on for relief.
The medicinal use of THC—under proper oversight and within legal parameters—has provided hope and healing to countless Texans suffering from chronic pain, PTSD, cancer, and other serious conditions. Curtailing access to these products would not only harm patients, but also threaten the livelihoods of small business owners, farmers, and entrepreneurs who have worked hard to build a safe and compliant hemp market in our state.
As a conservative, I believe in protecting free enterprise, supporting personal medical freedom, and ensuring that our laws reflect both public safety and compassion. Moving forward, I remain committed to working with all stakeholders to strike the right balance—preserving economic opportunity while keeping Texans safe.
